Of all my favorites (everyone from the Runaways to Bratmobile), I'd have to say the Shaggs. Raw, pure, even tragic.

Again the slits..That and Nina Hagen but she is getting slightly too old for most to remember her.

There are a few groups that are good but I try not to have favorites.

    Gaia from Japan.

Because their music is amazing fast and tight as hell. And each time I saw them here in SF, they blew me away.

    THE RUNAWAYS!!!

I'm not sure if they are necessarily "punk" but they definitely the best! Why? Too many reasons to list (I know that's a cop-out - but where does one start)?

Early Cranberries rocked. The Murmers and Lords of Acid put me in another place when I was coming out. Eve's Plum is good too

I'm a huge fan of the Patti Smith group, and more recently I love Bikini Kill. There is also a special place in my heart for Blondie, even though they aren't thought of as punk as much nowadays.

Isn't it strange how some groups are not seen as very punk anymore, when most groups likely were influenced by them? I still think Nina Hagen was pretty much the queen of punk, and well some people just don't see it. (why, no clue)

Same goes for the un-girl group The Kinks, several bands just ripped them right off (riff for riff) and few even know enough to tell.
